Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple’s new App Intents feature and major Siri upgrade are now planned for iOS 26.4 in spring 2026, following engineering delays.
Apple’s Siri Overhaul Finally Has a New Launch Window
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is now targeting spring 2026 for the launch of its long-awaited Siri overhaul and App Intents feature, a system designed to let Siri take direct actions in apps for you. Originally planned for the iOS 18 cycle, the rollout faced engineering delays and is now expected around iOS 26.4.
These updates were first revealed at WWDC24, where Apple promised a smarter, more capable Siri powered by Apple Intelligence. The pitch was bold: Siri would no longer just answer questions, but actually get things done inside apps.
Gurman had already mentioned back in June that Apple’s upgrade Siri will be rolling out in 2026 with iOS 26.4 in March, but made no specific mention of App Intents back then. Apple CEO, Tim Cook also chimed in at the start of this month stating that the company is “making good progress” on personalized Siri features, set for a 2026 launch.
What Are App Intents?
App Intents will allow Siri to perform tasks directly in supported apps, like booking a ride, paying a bill, or starting a workout. All of this without manual navigation. While this sounds straightforward, it’s a complex challenge for Apple’s AI systems.
According to Gurman’s report, engineers have been working to ensure the system is:
- Compatible with enough apps to be useful.
- Accurate in high-stakes areas like health, finance, and personal safety.
- Secure and privacy-conscious, especially in sensitive categories.
Apple is even considering restricting or excluding certain features in categories where failure is not an option, such as banking and health apps.

Controlled Rollout Expected
Rather than a universal launch, App Intents will likely debut in partnership with select major apps. Apple is currently working with key developers to test and refine the system ahead of release.
Gurman notes that Apple intends to market the feature heavily once it’s ready, making it a central selling point of iOS 26.4 and the broader Apple Intelligence push.
Why This Matters
The Siri overhaul is one of Apple’s most significant AI bets in years. While delays have dampened early excitement, the extra development time may be crucial to ensuring reliability, security, and user trust, especially in areas where precision is non-negotiable.
