Apple has released iOS 16.7.14, a small but important update aimed at fixing a serious emergency calling issue affecting older iPhones in Australia.
The update is available for the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X, and Apple says it resolves a mobile network bug that could prevent some devices from connecting to emergency services.
This comes after iOS 16.7.13 caused unexpected problems with emergency calling support in Australia. Apple pulled that update once the issue became clear, though some users had already installed it.
Australian carriers have been adjusting emergency call infrastructure since December, and those network changes have created compatibility issues for certain older iPhones.
Apple previously issued a temporary fix through a Telstra carrier settings update, but iOS 16.7.14 is the more permanent solution. There’s also an iPadOS 16.7.14 update available for older iPads.
Users can download iOS 16.7.14 by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
