  • App has existed in beta via TestFlight for nearly 2 years, but slots remain full.
  • Meta may finally be serious about iPad support for all its apps.

WhatstApp’s official X account recently replied to a post begging for a WhatsApp iPad version with the 👀(Eyes) emoji, a move that instantly triggered speculation across the Apple community.

WhatsApp Replied to an iPad App Request, Which Could Arrive Soon

Now, if you’re like me and have been waiting years for this to happen, it’s hard not to feel a little skeptical.

The WhatsApp iPad app has technically existed for almost two years through Apple’s TestFlight beta program, but good luck getting in as slots are always full. It’s basically been ghostware unless you happened to jump on it early.

This new tease does suggest Meta might finally be pushing the iPad version out of limbo and into public release. That would be a big deal. WhatsApp is one of the last major messaging apps to lack proper iPad support, which has always felt odd considering how central it is to daily communication for millions globally.

The iPhone and Mac apps work great, but being able to message directly from the iPad without weird workarounds would be a game changer.

And Meta might actually be turning a corner. There are also rumors of an Instagram app for iPad in the works, which, again, falls under the “why has this not existed yet?” category. Facebook already supports iPad, but Threads doesn’t. Slowly but surely, the pieces are falling into place.

So yes, I’m excited. But it’s been so long I wouldn’t hold my breath. That said… one can hope.
