Apple has officially released iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 for iPhone and iPad users.

Unlike the smaller 26.4.2 release, this update actually brings a handful of noticeable changes, including updates to Apple Maps, improved RCS support, and new features for users in the European Union.

If you prefer manual installs, clean restores, or simply want the IPSW files for safekeeping, you can download them below.

What’s new in iOS 26.5

While this isn’t a massive update, iOS 26.5 includes several meaningful additions and under-the-hood improvements.

The most visible change is inside Apple Maps, where Apple has added a new Suggested Places feature to search. The company is also continuing work on end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging between iPhone and Android users.

In the European Union, Apple is testing new support for third-party accessories, including Live Activities and enhanced integration features that were previously limited to Apple’s own ecosystem products.

There are also signs Apple may introduce discounted monthly payment options for annual subscriptions in the future.

Should you update?

Yes, especially if you skipped the previous bug-fix releases.

This update combines stability improvements with actual feature additions, making it a more worthwhile install than the smaller maintenance patches Apple has pushed recently.

And with iOS 27 expected to debut soon at WWDC 2026, this is likely one of the final major updates before Apple shifts focus fully to the next generation of iPhone software.
