Apple is officially bringing native video podcast support to the Apple Podcasts app with iOS 26.4.

Yes, video podcasts already existed in different forms. But this time, Apple is going all in.

With iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4, Apple is introducing a streamlined, HLS-powered video experience built directly into Apple Podcasts. And it is clearly designed with monetization and creator control in mind.

Native video podcasts, finally

The new system uses HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), the same streaming technology Apple uses across its ecosystem. That means:

  • Smooth playback over Wi-Fi or cellular
  • Adaptive quality depending on your connection
  • Offline downloads for video episodes
  • Seamless switching between watching and listening

You can start watching a podcast episode and then lock your phone and continue listening without friction. It feels native because it is.

Video Podcasts In Ios 26.4

Apple says video episodes will integrate with existing Apple Podcasts features, including personalized recommendations and curated editorial sections like New and Categories. So discoverability does not take a hit.

A big moment for creators

This is not just about viewers, it is clearly about creators.

Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services, framed it as a milestone moment, positioning video as the next evolution of podcasting on Apple’s platform.

At launch, several major hosting and distribution partners are supporting HLS video, including:

  • Acast
  • ART19
  • Omny Studio
  • SiriusXM

Creators will also be able to dynamically insert video ads. That opens the door to proper video monetization inside Apple Podcasts instead of relying purely on audio sponsorships or external platforms.

It is a clear signal that Apple wants podcast creators to stay inside its ecosystem instead of drifting toward YouTube-first strategies.

How this is different from before?

Technically, video podcasts were already possible via RSS feeds.

But that approach felt bolted on. It was not deeply integrated, and it lacked the monetization infrastructure Apple is now building around HLS delivery.

iOS 26.4 turns video into a first-class experience inside the app. Cleaner publishing workflow. Better playback. Better ad support.

And importantly, better positioning against YouTube’s dominance in video podcast consumption.

Availability

HLS video support is available now in the beta versions of:

A public release of all three updates is expected somewhere in Spring.
