Apple is moving forward with a sequel to F1: The Movie, officially confirming that the blockbuster racing drama will return.
The news comes directly from the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, who confirmed in an interview with the BBC that work has already begun on the follow-up.
F1 sequel confirmed
Speaking at the Academy Awards luncheon in Los Angeles, Bruckheimer said plainly:
“We’re working on a sequel.”
He did not share a release timeline or confirm whether Brad Pitt will return. However, he noted that he will be involved in casting decisions, leaving the door open for familiar faces to come back.
Given the film’s massive performance, this announcement was more a matter of when than if.
Why a sequel makes sense

F1: The Movie became:
- Apple’s biggest theatrical hit ever
- The highest-grossing sports movie of all time
- A major brand moment for Apple in Hollywood
For a company still relatively new to theatrical blockbusters, F1 proved Apple can compete at the highest level.
The sequel also aligns perfectly with Apple’s broader investment in Formula 1. Starting next month, F1 races will begin streaming on Apple TV in the United States, deepening the company’s relationship with the sport.
This is not just a movie sequel. It is ecosystem strategy.
Apple’s theatrical strategy is still selective
Interestingly, Apple recently unveiled its upcoming slate of films, and none of them are set for wide theatrical releases. Most titles are going directly to Apple TV.
That suggests Apple is being cautious about which projects receive a major theatrical push. F1 earned that treatment, but not every title will.
What we don’t know yet
- No confirmed release date
- No casting announcements
- No plot details
For now, we only know development is underway. But considering the scale of the first film, expectations will be high.
A sequel to F1: The Movie feels like a natural next step. The first film was both commercially successful and strategically important for Apple.
If Apple can match the energy, realism, and spectacle of the original, the sequel could solidify its position as a serious player in theatrical filmmaking.
Now the real question: does Brad Pitt return to the driver’s seat?
