Microsoft has officially confirmed the codename for its next-generation Xbox console. The upcoming system is currently known internally as “Project Helix,” and it will be capable of playing both Xbox and PC games.
The confirmation came from Asha Sharma, who recently took over leadership of the Xbox business after longtime Xbox chief Phil Spencer retired.
Sharma shared the update in a post on X, where she briefly discussed the future of the Xbox platform.
“Great start to the morning with Team Xbox, where we talked about our commitment to the return of Xbox including Project Helix, the code name for our next generation console. Project Helix will lead in performance and play your Xbox and PC games.”
Next-gen Xbox will support PC games
While rumors about the next-generation Xbox console have been circulating for some time, Sharma’s comments mark the first official confirmation of the Project Helix codename and the device’s ability to run both Xbox and PC titles.

Details about how the feature will work have not been shared yet. However, the confirmation suggests that the next Xbox could support a broader range of games beyond the traditional Xbox console ecosystem.
The current generation of Xbox hardware includes the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, both released in 2020.
More details could be shared soon
Sharma also said she is looking forward to speaking more about Xbox’s plans with developers and partners during the upcoming Game Developers Conference next week.
For now, Project Helix remains early in development, but the confirmation signals that Microsoft is already preparing the next generation of Xbox hardware.
