WhatsApp just made sharing pictures a little more fun. With the latest update, the app now supports Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android, so you can send those moving snapshots without turning them into videos first.
For iPhone users, Live Photos capture 1.5 seconds before and after you press the shutter, adding subtle movement and sound to your stills. On Android, Motion Photos do the same.
Now, when you share them on WhatsApp, a small icon appears on the photo preview—tap it, and the little clip plays right inside the chat.
But that’s not all Meta has been working on. Recent updates have also added:
- AI-powered themes and backdrops – Use Meta AI to create custom chat themes or generate unique backgrounds for video calls, photos, and videos.
- Better group chat discovery – Just type a contact’s name in the Chats tab, and WhatsApp shows all the groups you share.
- More creative tools for iPhone photos – Live Photos can now be set to Loop, Bounce, and more before you send them.
If you don’t see the new options yet, update WhatsApp to the latest version from the App Store or Google Play.
This might seem like a small change, but it makes WhatsApp feel a little closer to iMessage and Google Photos, bringing those lively, personal snapshots into your everyday chats.
