Google is finally ready to bring its AirDrop-style sharing feature to more Android phones.

After debuting on the Pixel 10 series last year, Google has confirmed that Quick Share with AirDrop interoperability will expand to additional Android devices, with announcements coming “very soon.”

The update was revealed during a press briefing at Google’s Taipei offices, where Android VP of Engineering Eric Kay confirmed the company’s plans while speaking to media and influencers.

Quick Share expansion is officially happening

According to Kay (via Android Authority), Google spent much of the past year validating that Quick Share could reliably work not just with iPhones, but also with iPads and MacBooks. Now that the functionality has been proven, Google is ready to roll it out more broadly.

Kay explained that expansion is already underway internally and that Google is actively working with Android partners to bring the feature to more devices across the ecosystem.

Quick Share with AirDrop support first launched in November 2025, but until now, it has remained exclusive to the Pixel 10 lineup. While there were hints this limitation wouldn’t last forever, this marks the first clear confirmation that wider availability is coming.

Timing points to an announcement soon

Google hasn’t shared a specific rollout date, but the language used strongly suggests that an announcement is imminent. With Samsung’s next Unpacked event and Mobile World Congress both approaching, those venues stand out as likely candidates for revealing which devices will get support next.

From the start, Google has positioned this feature as an ecosystem play rather than a Pixel-only perk, so its expansion was always expected. The only real question was when.

Easier switching from iPhone may also be coming

Beyond file sharing, Kay also hinted at broader efforts to improve Android and iOS interoperability. He noted that Google is working to make it easier for people switching phones to transfer their data and ensure nothing is left behind, seemingly referencing iPhone users in particular.

No concrete details were shared on that front, but combined with Quick Share’s expansion, it points to Google doubling down on smoother transitions between platforms.

If Google follows through on both fronts, 2026 could mark a meaningful shift in how Android and iOS users interact across ecosystems.
