Apple could replace FineWoven with a new “TechWoven” case for the iPhone 17 Pro. Leaks also suggest a Crossbody Strap accessory may debut with the lineup.

FineWoven didn’t last long. Apple introduced the so-called “premium” fabric case with the iPhone 15 lineup, only for it to be slammed by users for scratching easily and looking worn after just a few weeks. By 2024, Apple quietly retired it.

Now it looks like Cupertino is ready for a do-over. A new leak by Majin Bu suggests the iPhone 17 Pro case will debut with a material called TechWoven, a name that sounds like Apple is trying to distance itself from the FineWoven flop while still leaning into the “woven fabric” theme.

What’s Different This Time?

Unlike FineWoven’s almost suede-like finish, TechWoven is described as having a rougher, more textile feel. That could mean fewer scuffs and better durability.

The material might even be based on recycled plastics (rPET), which Apple has been using more of across accessories to hit its 2030 carbon-neutral goals. If true, this would keep the eco-friendly angle alive — but hopefully with a lot less frustration for users.

Expected colors so far: black, brown, blue, green, and purple.

The Surprise Detail: a Crossbody Strap

Here’s where things get interesting. Packaging leaks hint that the TechWoven case will support a “Crossbody Strap.” Unlike the tiny wrist lanyard hole on Apple’s silicone cases, this sounds like a full strap designed to wear your iPhone like a mini satchel or bag.

That’s a first for Apple and suggests the company may sell the strap as an official accessory. Whether it’s a fashion move or a practical way to keep iPhones safe in crowded places remains to be seen.

What to Expect Next

Leakers warn that the boxes floating around are clones, but history shows they’re often near-identical to Apple’s actual packaging. With the iPhone 17 announcement expected on September 9, we’ll know soon enough if TechWoven is Apple’s redemption arc, and whether you’ll be slinging your Pro Max across your shoulder this fall.
