Apple has a new streaming champion. Apple TV+ just confirmed that F1: The Movie has officially become the most-watched film in Apple TV history, making it the platform’s biggest movie success yet.

After a strong theatrical run, the film has now crossed over into streaming in a major way, proving that Apple’s biggest box office win can also dominate at home.

F1 just hit a huge Apple TV milestone

Apple shared the news today, revealing that F1: The Movie has now surpassed every other film released on Apple TV+ in total viewership. The company made the announcement through a post on X, calling it: “The most watched film in Apple TV history.”

That is a pretty massive title, especially considering how aggressively Apple has been building out its movie lineup over the past few years.

The streaming success was always coming

F1: The Movie premiered on Apple TV+ on December 12, after first arriving through digital purchases, Blu-ray, and 4K UHD releases.

Given that it already became Apple’s most successful theatrical film, the streaming victory was basically the next step.

Once it hit Apple TV+, it was only a matter of time before it climbed to the top. Apple TV+ has released some major movie titles recently, including:

  • The Gorge, the sci-fi action thriller starring Anya Taylor-Joy
  • Wolfs, featuring George Clooney and Brad Pitt

But even with those heavy hitters, F1 has now taken the crown as Apple’s biggest film streaming draw.

Awards buzz makes it even more notable

The film’s momentum has also carried into awards season. F1: The Movie recently earned four Academy Award nominations, including the industry’s biggest one: Best Picture.

While it may not be the expected winner, even landing that nomination is a major statement for Apple’s growing Hollywood ambitions.

Making a film that works both as a crowd-pleaser and a critical success is not easy, and Apple clearly struck something special here.

Apple’s movie strategy is starting to click

With F1 now holding the title of Apple TV+’s most-watched film ever, it’s becoming clear that Apple’s big-budget theatrical-first approach is paying off.

If this is the benchmark, Apple’s next wave of films has a lot to live up to.
