Samsung has been pushing foldables for years, but it looks like its next big bet is not the wild Galaxy Z TriFold.

Instead, Samsung is reportedly going all-in on something much more… Apple-like.

A new report suggests Samsung is preparing to mass-produce a new foldable device called the “Wide Fold,” and it could end up being the company’s real headline foldable for 2026.

Samsung’s “Wide Fold” is the one getting the big numbers

According to ETNews, Samsung has told partners it plans to build:

  • 1 million units of its upcoming Wide Fold device

That is a huge number for a new foldable form factor, especially compared to Samsung’s other experimental devices.

Now compare that to the Galaxy Z TriFold:

That contrast says a lot. Samsung clearly sees the TriFold as a flashy concept, but not the future of its foldable lineup.

The TriFold was never meant to be mainstream

The Galaxy Z TriFold is impressive, no doubt.

But it is also:

  • Extremely expensive
  • Bulky compared to normal foldables
  • More of a “look what we can do” product

It feels like Samsung testing the limits, not selling the next everyday phone. Think of it as a concept car that somehow made it onto the road.

So what exactly is the “Wide Fold”?

The Wide Fold is interesting because it is rumored to have a 4:3 aspect ratio, which is much closer to a tablet-style screen. Most foldables today use narrower displays, closer to 2:1.

That means Wide Fold could feel more like:

  • A mini iPad when opened
  • A more usable multitasking device
  • A foldable built for media and productivity

And here’s the fun part…

That shape sounds very similar to what leaks suggest Apple is planning with the rumored iPhone Fold.

It is hard not to connect the dots here. Samsung’s Wide Fold reportedly mirrors the form factor Apple is expected to use, and Samsung is producing it at scale.

That suggests Samsung believes this wider design is what consumers actually want, not the triple-fold spectacle. In other words: Samsung may be preparing for the foldable world Apple is about to enter.

Pricing is still a mystery

Unlike the TriFold, we have no confirmed pricing for the Wide Fold yet. But given the larger screen and premium positioning, it will not be cheap. Still, producing 1 million units suggests Samsung expects it to sell far more widely than the $2,899 TriFold.

Launch timing: could arrive with Fold 8 and Flip 8

Rumors also suggest Samsung could launch the Wide Fold alongside:

  • Galaxy Z Fold 8
  • Galaxy Z Flip 8
  • Samsung Unpacked later this year

If true, Samsung’s foldable lineup is about to get a lot more crowded.

The 404 take

The TriFold is cool tech flex energy. But the Wide Fold feels like the first Samsung foldable in a while that might actually be designed for normal people, not just collectors with deep pockets.

And if it really does match Apple’s upcoming foldable style, Samsung might be trying to own that category before Cupertino even shows up.
