Apple’s new M5 Vision Pro is here with faster performance and 120Hz support, but early adopters hoping for a trade-in deal are out of luck.

No Trade-In for the Original Vision Pro

Apple’s trade-in program usually makes upgrading your iPhone, iPad, or Mac a little easier on the wallet. But this time, Vision Pro owners are on their own. The company quietly confirmed that you can’t trade in your first-generation headset when purchasing the new M5 Vision Pro.

That means if you’re planning to upgrade, you’ll need to resell your M2 Vision Pro yourself, either through a marketplace, a reseller, or privately.

What’s New in the M5 Vision Pro?

The new M5-powered Vision Pro brings modest improvements rather than major changes. It keeps the same $3,499 starting price but adds:

  • Faster performance with the new M5 chip
  • Improved power efficiency and slightly longer battery life
  • Refresh rate up to 120Hz for reduced motion blur
  • The new Dual Knit Band for a more comfortable fit

If you already own the original Vision Pro, you might not feel much pressure to upgrade just yet, especially without an official trade-in to make it more affordable.

Should You Upgrade?

Unless you’re chasing the latest hardware, the M2 Vision Pro still holds up well for everyday use, spatial computing, and Apple ecosystem experiences. The M5 model may be smoother and more efficient, but it is not a major leap forward.

For now, early adopters will need to decide between keeping what they have or selling it themselves before stepping up to the M5 Vision Pro.
