A new iOS 26 code reference hints at a long-requested Apple Watch sleep score feature, possibly launching with watchOS 26. Here’s what we know so far.

Apple Watch May Soon Get a Native Sleep Score System

Apple may be working on a sleep score feature for the Apple Watch, according to code found in the iOS 26 beta. This would bring Apple’s sleep tracking closer to what third-party apps like AutoSleep and Pillow have offered for years.

The feature was spotted by MacRumors, who found an unreleased illustration in the iOS 26 Health app labeled “Watch Focus Score.” The image includes familiar sleep icons such as a bed, an alarm clock, and a “zzz” symbol, all surrounding an Apple Watch.

At the center of the watch display is the number 84, surrounded by a ring with colored segments that appear to match Apple’s current sleep stage UI. This strongly suggests the addition of a native sleep score, which would likely range from 0 to 100 and reflect sleep quality based on heart rate, movement, and other data.

What Is a Sleep Score and Why Does It Matter?

Sleep scores combine multiple metrics, like total sleep time, sleep stages, heart rate, and consistency into one simple number. Many Apple Watch users rely on third-party apps to get this kind of feedback, since Apple’s built-in sleep tracking currently only offers basic data.

Adding a first-party sleep score would make Apple’s sleep tracking more competitive, offering a quick way to evaluate sleep efficiency directly from the Apple Watch or the iPhone Health app.

Still Unofficial, But Promising

Apple hasn’t announced anything about this feature yet, so it’s unclear if the score would be generated by Apple’s own algorithms or if the Health app is simply preparing to support sleep score data from third-party apps in a more visual way.
