Google’s push into AI-powered search is paying off big time. CEO Sundar Pichai just revealed that AI Overviews now reach 1.5 billion users every month, a massive milestone shared during Alphabet’s Q1 2025 earnings call.
AI Overviews Keep Expanding, Ads Included
Launched widely in May last year, AI Overviews offer quick, AI-generated summaries right in your search results. While early rollouts included a few awkward moments, Google has steadily improved the tool and expanded the types of queries it handles.
More Gemini, Less Assistant
Google also ramped up development across its Gemini AI ecosystem, launching Gemini 2.5 Pro, an experimental model that supports new features like creating podcasts through Deep Research.
Google Maps is also getting smarter, with Gemini now helping users plan trips by scanning screenshots.
And the transition is far from over. Google is currently phasing out its traditional Assistant in favor of Gemini, with Pichai confirming that phones, tablets, cars, headphones, and smartwatches will all be moving to Gemini later this year.

While all of that is impressive, Google is in a tough spot right now after being slammed with major losses in antitrust cases by the U.S. DOJ. What does this mean for Gemini and AI Overviews, should unfold in some time.
