If you’ve opened up Instagram recently on your iPhone, went to post a Story, and suddenly realized the Save button is gone, you’re not alone. A bunch of people noticed the same thing.
So what happened?
Wait, Instagram Took the Save Button Away?
Yep. For a little while there, the option to save your Instagram Stories straight from the in-app camera just quietly disappeared for a bunch of iOS users. No update note, no warning, just gone.
Some people thought it was a glitch, others thought maybe Instagram was testing something new. And honestly, that might be the case as apps like Instagram are always running little A/B tests to see how users react to stuff. Sometimes they remove features just to see if people freak out (spoiler: we did).
There’s also a chance this was inspired by TikTok, which recently made it harder to save videos unless you actually post them first. Maybe Instagram wanted to try something similar?
Whatever the reason, it didn’t stick.
Good News: It’s Back!
After enough people complained, Instagram seems to have fixed it. All you need to do is update your app. Seriously, that’s it. Head over to the App Store, search for Instagram, and tap that Update button. Once you’re on the latest version, the Save button should be right back where it belongs.
If it’s still not showing up, try restarting the app or even your phone. Sometimes iOS just needs a nudge.

Why This Matters (Especially If You Cross-Post)
Saving your Stories before posting is super helpful, especially if you post the same stuff to TikTok, Threads, Snapchat, or wherever else. It also gives you a clean copy of your content without any watermarks or UI overlays. Basically, it’s just smart social media hygiene.
So losing that Save button? Yeah, it was a mini disaster for creators, meme-makers, and literally anyone who just wanted to archive their lunch aesthetic.
