Apple may be planning a fresh set of colors for the next iMac update later this year, according to a new report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman says Apple’s upcoming iMac refresh will feature “a refreshed color palette.” While the report does not specify the exact colors, it suggests Apple could tweak or replace the current lineup introduced with the latest model.

If the report proves accurate, it would mark the first meaningful color update for the iMac since 2024.

The current iMac comes in seven colors

Apple currently sells the iMac in seven color options:

  • Blue
  • Purple
  • Pink
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Green
  • Silver

These colors were slightly adjusted versions of the palette first introduced with the redesigned iMac. That model marked a major shift for the iMac, bringing back bright finishes after years of neutral tones dominating Apple’s desktop lineup.

When Apple introduced the iMac, the company kept the same color lineup without changes. Apple also skipped the M2 generation entirely for the iMac.

Apple may pair the color update with a chip upgrade

Alongside new colors, Apple will likely update the iMac’s internal hardware.

The company has already begun rolling out its latest Apple silicon generation across other Macs. The MacBook Air, for example, recently launched with the M5 chip, making it a logical candidate for the next iMac refresh as well.

Another possibility is that Apple waits for its next silicon generation and introduces the iMac with an even newer chip. Apple has not confirmed any timeline for the next iMac update.

Apple’s also reportedly working on bringing OLED displays to the new iMac, but we may not see that upgrade before 2027.

Apple often uses colors to refresh existing designs

Refreshing colors is a strategy Apple regularly uses to keep products feeling new without redesigning the hardware.

The company does this across several product categories, including:

  • Mid-cycle color updates for iPhones
  • Seasonal refreshes of Apple Watch bands
  • New finishes for accessories and cases

Because the iMac’s colorful design has become one of its defining features since 2021, even small changes to the color palette can make the device feel noticeably different.

What new iMac colors could look like

It remains unclear whether Apple will introduce completely new colors or simply adjust the shades of its existing ones.

Apple could expand the lineup with colors not previously offered on the iMac, or it may refine the current palette by tweaking saturation and tone. The company used a similar approach during the M4 refresh.

Either way, the iMac remains one of Apple’s most visually distinctive products, and new colors would continue that design philosophy.

What colors would you like to see?

If Apple does introduce a refreshed palette later this year, it will be interesting to see how the company evolves the iMac’s signature colorful design.

What new colors would you like Apple to bring to the iMac next?
