Apple’s new M5 MacBook Air quietly introduces a practical upgrade that many users will appreciate. Every configuration now includes a more powerful charger in the box.
Instead of the older 30W USB-C Power Adapter or the 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter that shipped with prior models, the M5 MacBook Air comes standard with Apple’s 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max.
This adapter was first introduced last September alongside the iPhone 17 Pro, and it now becomes the default option for Apple’s most popular laptop.
What this means in real-world use
The 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max offers more headroom for charging under heavier workloads. Whether you are exporting video, running multiple apps, or using external displays, the upgraded adapter should maintain charging speeds more consistently compared to the previous 30W brick.

For most users, this means fewer slow charging moments when the laptop is under load.
Optional charger configurations
Customers who configure a build-to-order M5 MacBook Air still have alternative adapter options:
- 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter for an additional $20
- 70W USB-C Power Adapter for an additional $20
The 70W option enables fast charging, allowing the MacBook Air to reach up to 50 percent battery in about 30 minutes. That may be worthwhile for users who frequently need quick top-ups between meetings or classes.
However, the new bundled 40W adapter is already a noticeable improvement, making the base configuration more compelling without forcing an upsell.
A small but meaningful upgrade
The M5 MacBook Air brings several larger updates this generation, including double base storage, faster SSD speeds, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6. The stronger bundled charger complements those changes and improves the out-of-box experience.
It is not the headline feature of the new MacBook Air, but it is a practical enhancement that makes everyday use a little smoother.
