Apple has officially released the first macOS Tahoe 26.4 public beta, giving testers early access to several notable updates. The public beta arrives one day after the developer beta rollout.
If you’re enrolled in Apple’s beta program, you can download the update by going to System Settings > General > Software Update after signing up through Apple’s beta website.
Here’s what’s new in macOS Tahoe 26.4 so far.
Charge Limit comes to Mac
One of the biggest additions is a new Charge Limit feature.
Mac users can now manually set a maximum battery charge level between 80 percent and 100 percent. This gives more direct control over battery health and long-term longevity, especially for users who keep their Mac plugged in for extended periods.
It’s similar to the charge limit feature Apple introduced on recent iPhone models, but now built directly into macOS.
Safari compact tab layout returns
The Compact tab layout has been reintroduced in Safari for users who preferred the more condensed browsing interface.
Earlier versions of macOS Tahoe removed or limited this option, so its return will be welcome news for longtime Safari users.
Rosetta 2 warnings begin appearing
Apple silicon Mac users will now see warnings for apps that still rely on Rosetta 2. Apple has confirmed that macOS 27 will phase out Rosetta entirely. macOS Tahoe is also the final version of macOS that supports Intel-based Macs.
This signals Apple’s continued transition away from Intel hardware and legacy compatibility layers.
What else could be coming?
Apple is expected to test macOS Tahoe 26.4 over the next several weeks ahead of a spring launch. Additional features could appear in later betas, including possible new emoji characters and other refinements.
As always, installing beta software on a secondary device is recommended.
