YouTube TV is officially breaking up its all-in-one bundle. Instead of paying $82.99 per month for the full channel lineup, subscribers can now choose from smaller, category-based plans that cost $11 to $28 less per month.

The goal, according to YouTube, is simple: make TV easier and more flexible. Here’s how the new YouTube TV plans work.

What changed with YouTube TV plans?

Back in December 2026, YouTube announced that it was working on genre-based plans for a 2026 launch. Now 2 months later, YouTube has introduced more than 10 new plan options across four main categories:

  • Sports
  • Sports + News
  • Entertainment
  • News + Entertainment + Family

Each plan includes unlimited DVR and support for up to six household members, just like the full subscription. Add-ons such as NFL Sunday Ticket, HBO Max, and 4K Plus are still available separately.

This move gives subscribers the option to pay only for the content they actually watch.

Is YouTube TV getting cheaper?

Yes and no. The full YouTube TV package still costs $82.99 per month, a price that has more than doubled since launch in 2017 when it started at $35 per month.

However, these new tailored plans finally give subscribers a way to lower their monthly bill if they do not need every channel.

Existing subscribers can downgrade to one of the new plans, and new users get discounted intro pricing plus a 10-day free trial.

Why this matters

Streaming fatigue is real. Between price hikes and endless add-ons, many live TV replacements now cost as much as cable.

By splitting YouTube TV into focused bundles, Google is clearly responding to:

  • Subscriber price sensitivity
  • Growing competition from cheaper streaming bundles
  • The need for simpler TV choices

It is a strategic move to keep users from canceling altogether.

Should you switch plans?

If you mainly watch sports or just entertainment channels, one of these new plans could save you between $11 and $28 per month.

But if you rely on a wide range of channels, the full plan may still make more sense.
