Meta is preparing to add one of WhatsApp’s most requested features: scheduled messages. While the functionality is not live yet, early signs show development is underway.

Yes, WhatsApp still does not support it

According to findings from WABetaInfo, references to scheduled messages were discovered in a recent TestFlight beta of WhatsApp.

The feature is currently in development and not yet available for beta testers. However, a shared screenshot reveals a new “Scheduled Messages” menu item inside the Group Info screen, positioned below “Media, links and docs” and “Starred.”

This suggests Meta is building native scheduling directly into the chat management interface.

Whatsapp Scheduled Messages

A long overdue addition

Scheduled messaging has become standard across many modern messaging platforms.

For example:

  • Telegram supports message scheduling, including a “Repeat” option for recurring sends.
  • iMessage offers scheduled send functionality within Apple’s ecosystem.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp users have had to rely on workarounds, including automation via the Shortcuts app on iPhone.

Adding native scheduling would remove friction and bring WhatsApp in line with competitors.

What remains unclear

It is not yet known whether WhatsApp will support advanced options such as recurring scheduled sends, similar to Telegram’s Repeat feature, which can act as a lightweight reminder system for ongoing workflows.

For now, the feature remains under development. According to WABetaInfo, once complete it will roll out to select beta testers for feedback before expanding more broadly.

Bottom line

Scheduled messages are officially in development for WhatsApp. While there is no release date yet, this represents a meaningful quality of life improvement for both casual users and power users.
