It took way longer than it should have, but WhatsApp is finally testing a feature iPhone users have been begging for; multiple accounts on the same device.

No more weird workarounds, no more relying on WhatsApp Business just to keep your personal and work chats separate. Meta has started rolling out a new TestFlight beta that quietly unlocks multi-account support, and a handful of early testers already have access.

And yes, it’s real this time.

Only Two Accounts for Now, But it’s a Good Start

According to WABetaInfo, this beta includes a new section in settings called “Account List.” If you’re part of the rollout, you’ll see it right under the QR code icon, ready for you to add another WhatsApp account without juggling devices or extra apps.

Right now, WhatsApp is limiting it to two accounts — which honestly covers 90% of use cases. One for personal, one for business or side-hustle life.

How Adding a Second Account Works

Whatsapp Multiple Accounts

WhatsApp’s implementation is pretty flexible:

  • You can register a completely new number
  • Or add an existing WhatsApp account (including one that used to live on your Business app)
  • Or link a companion account from another phone using a QR code, which then syncs messages and settings automatically

That last option is especially nice — no manual setup, no lost chats, no messy transfer process.

Each Account Stays Separate

WhatsApp also confirms that both accounts will keep their own:

  • Chat history
  • Backup settings
  • Notification tones
  • Preferences

Basically, nothing bleeds over. Even notifications will clearly show which account they belong to so you don’t accidentally reply from the wrong one.

When is it Coming to Everyone?

There’s no official release date yet, but judging by how polished this beta already looks, the feature feels close. WhatsApp usually takes its time rolling out major changes, but this one seems pretty far along.

Between this and the upcoming username support, it’s clear WhatsApp is getting ready for its next phase — one that feels a lot more flexible and, finally, less tied to old-school limitations.
