Apple is back with its annual Chinese New Year short film, and this year’s story comes with an unexpected co-star: a stray dog.

The new film is called “Glad I Met You,” and it’s part of Apple’s long-running Shot on iPhone series. Instead of feeling like a commercial, it plays out more like a warm short movie about finding family in surprising places.

Honestly, Apple has gotten very good at these.

“Glad I Met You” was shot on iPhone 17 Pro

Apple says the film was directed by Bai Xue and filmed entirely on the iPhone 17 Pro.

It blends cinematic visuals with a touch of stop-motion charm, following a girl and a talking dog through a heartwarming Lunar New Year tale. The camera quality is clearly there, but Apple doesn’t shove specs in your face, which makes it even more effective.

More storytelling, less camera flex

Apple has been releasing these Chinese New Year films since 2018, and they’ve become a yearly tradition.

What’s interesting is that the iPhone almost feels like a background character now. The focus is less on “look what our camera can do” and more on “look what kind of stories people can tell with it.”

There’s also a behind-the-scenes video showing how the iPhone 17 Pro was used on set, which is always fun to watch because these productions are basically full film crews… just with a phone as the main camera.
