The OLED MacBook Pro is finally looking like a real thing, and it’s coming in 2026, if industry analysts are right.
Apple is reportedly preparing to ditch LCD for brighter, thinner OLED screens across its MacBook Pro lineup, with none other than Samsung Display stepping in to help.
OLED MacBook Pro: What’s the Scoop?
According to a new report from Omdia, Apple is expected to begin production of OLED MacBooks in 2026, with both the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models making the switch. Samsung Display, already a major OLED supplier for iPhones and iPads, is now tipped to join Apple’s MacBook display supply chain.
This could mark a big shift not just in screen quality, but also in how thin and light the MacBook Pro could become.

Why OLED Makes Sense for the MacBook Pro
An OLED MacBook Pro means:
- Thinner and lighter design (no backlight needed)
- Higher contrast and brightness
- Vivid color reproduction
- Possibly even notch-free displays — rumors say Apple could move to a “hole-punch” camera design instead
These upgrades aren’t just cosmetic. For pro users who edit photos, color grade videos, or work in high-contrast environments, OLED MacBooks will be a huge win.
What About the MacBook Air?
While the MacBook Pro OLED upgrade is expected in 2026, don’t expect the MacBook Air to follow right away. Analysts believe OLED will come to Air models closer to 2028 or 2029.

Keep Expectations in Check
As always with Apple supply chain reports, take timelines with a grain of salt. While Omdia has a decent track record, even they’ve shifted predictions multiple times.
Still, with both the iPad Pro and iPhone now running OLED, the MacBook Pro OLED transition seems inevitable and it’s just a matter of when.
