If you’ve been eagerly waiting to preorder the Nintendo Switch 2, here’s the scoop: the console itself is still launching at the same price — $449.99 for the base model and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle. So far, no changes there.

However, Nintendo has just confirmed that some of the Switch 2 accessories will cost more than originally announced.

In a statement released Friday morning, Nintendo said a number of accessories “will experience price adjustments from those announced on April 2 due to changes in market conditions.” Translation: some things are getting pricier, but for now, your core Switch 2 budget doesn’t need adjusting.

That said, Nintendo also threw in a cautious note: more price changes could be coming in the future if market conditions shift again. Classic “we’re watching things closely” energy.

Accessory Price Changes: What’s Going Up

Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

Here’s a quick rundown of the accessory price changes — original prices (from April 2) are in parentheses:

  • Switch 2 Pro Controller: $84.99 (was $79.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Controllers (pair): $94.99 (was $89.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip: $39.99 (was $34.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Straps: $13.99 (was $12.99)
  • Joy-Con 2 Wheels: $24.99 (was $19.99)
  • Switch 2 Camera: $54.99 (was $49.99)
  • Switch 2 Dock Set: $119.99 (was $109.99)
  • Carrying Case + Screen Protector: $39.99 (was $34.99)
  • All-In-One Carrying Case: $84.99 (was $79.99)
  • AC Adapter: $34.99 (was $29.99)

So yeah, not massive jumps across the board, but enough that your final cart total might sting a little more than you expected.

Preorders Now Set for April 24

Nintendo also shared that U.S. preorders which were initially scheduled for April 9, have been pushed to April 24. Why the delay? The company said it needed time to “assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

In a statement, Nintendo apologized for the delay and said they hoped the move would “reduce some of the uncertainty our customers may be experiencing.”

What About Games?

The Mario Kart World bundle (priced at $499.99) includes a digital download of the game and will only be produced through Fall 2025 — and only while supplies last. Mario Kart World on its own will sell for $79.99, while Donkey Kong Bananza is set to launch in July at $69.99.

Why Prices Are Shifting?

Industry analysts had expected Nintendo to keep the hardware price firm, even in the face of rising tariffs affecting manufacturing in China and Vietnam. According to Serkan Toto of Kantan Games (Via: GamesIndustry.biz), Nintendo likely ran multiple scenarios to come up with pricing that would be “tariff-proof.”

However, there’s growing consensus that with tariffs persisting, we could see prices increase, especially heading into 2026. So, while the base price of the Switch 2 hasn’t changed (yet), this round of accessory price hikes might be the first sign that Nintendo’s feeling the pressure — and testing the waters for what customers are willing to pay.

One thing’s for sure: if you’re planning to deck out your Switch 2 with all the extras, you might want to start budgeting now and act.
