A few days after iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS received their latest betas, Apple has officially released macOS Tahoe 26.2 developer beta 1. Developers can now dive in to see what’s next for the Mac before the public release later this year.
What’s New in macOS Tahoe 26.2
While Apple hasn’t shared official release notes yet, macOS Tahoe 26.2 looks to be a refinement update focusing on AI integration and ecosystem alignment across Apple’s platforms.
Here’s what we know so far:
- Anthropic MCP support: Apple continues expanding compatibility with Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), aiming to make AI workflows and integrations more seamless across apps and devices.
- Image Playground expansion: Apple is also broadening Image Playground access for third-party models, including ChatGPT alternatives, allowing developers to integrate richer generative features directly into their apps.
- Performance and stability improvements: As with every x.2 release, expect under-the-hood optimizations and bug fixes that make macOS smoother and more reliable.
The new beta carries the build number 25C5031i, and it’s rolling out now to registered Apple developers.
How to Install macOS Tahoe 26.2 Developer Beta 1
Installing the latest macOS beta is easy if you’re a registered Apple Developer. Just follow these steps:
- Back up your Mac using Time Machine or your preferred backup method.
- Open System Settings.
- Navigate to General > Software Update.
- Click the ‘i’ icon next to Beta Updates.
- From the dropdown in the top-right, select macOS Developer Tahoe Beta.
- Hit Done, then start the installation when prompted.
As always, it’s best to avoid installing beta software on your main work machine, since some apps or features may still behave unpredictably.
When Will the Public Beta Arrive?
Based on Apple’s usual schedule, macOS Tahoe 26.2 public beta should arrive within a few days. The final release is likely to land in December, alongside iOS 26.2 and watchOS 26.2.
