Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone appears to be entering production, and a new leak claims we now know how visible the display crease will be.

According to Chinese leaker Fixed Focus Digital on Weibo, Apple has submitted production line orders for its upcoming foldable iPhone. With assembly reportedly underway, new details have surfaced about the device’s 7.8-inch inner display and how Apple is handling one of the biggest challenges in foldable design: the crease.

Crease depth and angle detailed

The leak claims Apple has reduced crease depth to under 0.15 mm.

Crease depth measures how deep the indentation appears along the folding point. A lower measurement suggests a shallower groove that is less noticeable visually and less perceptible when running a finger across the display.

The crease angle is reportedly under 2.5 degrees.

Crease angle reflects how sharp or pronounced the fold line appears when the device is fully opened. A smaller angle indicates a smoother transition across the fold, reducing the ridge effect commonly seen on many foldable smartphones.

Competing brands typically do not publish technical crease measurements, making direct comparisons difficult. However, Apple’s panel is rumored to use a new display technology developed by Samsung that has not yet appeared in other foldable devices.

Display and design expectations

The foldable iPhone is expected to feature:

  • A 7.8-inch inner display when unfolded
  • A 5.5-inch cover display
  • A book-style folding design similar to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold

Reports suggest Apple is opting against a clamshell approach and instead targeting a productivity-oriented foldable layout.

Hardware details from analysts

Earlier reports have indicated that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could include:

  • Two rear cameras
  • One front-facing camera
  • Touch ID integrated into the power button
  • A thickness of around 4.5 mm when unfolded
  • Between 9 mm and 9.5 mm when closed

If accurate, the device would rank among the thinnest book-style foldables on the market.

Launch timeline

Apple is widely expected to unveil its foldable alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September. If that happens, it would represent Apple’s most dramatic iPhone form factor shift since the original iPhone debuted in 2007.

With production reportedly underway and crease measurements now leaking, the foldable iPhone appears closer to reality than ever.
