Apple has officially opened pre-orders for the new iPhone 17e, expanding the iPhone 17 lineup with a more affordable option. The device was announced earlier this week and will launch on Wednesday, March 11.
Here is what makes the iPhone 17e different from the model it replaces.
Faster performance with A19 and C1X

The iPhone 17e is powered by Apple’s new A19 chip, paired with the C1X modem. That combination delivers faster performance compared to the previous generation and should improve efficiency, connectivity, and overall responsiveness.
For everyday users, that means smoother multitasking, quicker app launches, and better long-term performance support.
2x Base storage at the same price
One of the biggest upgrades is storage. The iPhone 17e now starts at 256GB for $599, doubling the base storage offered by the iPhone 16e. That is a meaningful improvement, especially as apps, photos, and videos continue to take up more space.
For users who need more capacity:
- 512GB model costs $799
Notably, the 512GB option is now $100 less than the same storage tier on the previous iPhone 16e.

Camera and durability improvements

Apple says the iPhone 17e includes next-generation portrait photography with enhanced Focus and Depth Control. That should allow for more precise subject separation and better control after the shot is taken.

Durability also improves with Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple claims delivers 3x better scratch resistance compared to the previous version.
MagSafe makes a comeback

MagSafe support returns on the iPhone 17e, enabling magnetic accessories and faster wireless charging.
Apple says wireless charging speeds are now up to 2x faster, making the 17e more versatile for users who rely on MagSafe wallets, stands, and chargers.
Colors and lineup positioning

The iPhone 17e comes in three finishes:
- Black
- White
- Soft Pink
The new model replaces the iPhone 16e in Apple’s lineup. Apple continues to sell the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus alongside the new 17e.
At $599 with 256GB standard storage, faster performance, and MagSafe support, the iPhone 17e positions itself as a strong mid-tier option for buyers who want modern features without stepping up to the Pro models.
