Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 17e, bringing meaningful upgrades to its more affordable iPhone tier while keeping the starting price unchanged.
The biggest headline change is the return of MagSafe. Unlike last year’s iPhone 16e, which only supported standard wireless charging, the iPhone 17e includes full MagSafe compatibility for magnetic accessories and faster wireless charging options.
Twice the storage at the same price
The iPhone 17e starts at $599, but now includes 256GB of storage as standard. That doubles the 128GB base storage offered on the 16e at the same price point.
For those who need more capacity, Apple is offering:
- 256GB for $599
- 512GB for $799
Notably, Apple previously charged $899 for the 512GB version of the 16e, making this a more aggressive pricing structure.
Powered by A19 and C1X modem
Internally, the iPhone 17e runs on Apple’s latest A19 chip, the same processor used in the base iPhone 17. It also features the newer C1X modem, which Apple says is “up to 2x faster than C1 in iPhone 16e.”
In its official announcement, Apple stated:
“Apple today announced iPhone 17e, a powerful and more affordable addition to the iPhone 17 lineup. At the heart of iPhone 17e is the latest-generation A19, which delivers exceptional performance for everything users do.”
The company also highlighted camera improvements:
“The 48MP Fusion camera captures stunning photos, including next-generation portraits, and 4K Dolby Vision video. It also enables an optical-quality 2x Telephoto — like having two cameras in one.”
New Soft Pink color option
Color choices now include black, white, and a new soft pink finish, giving the entry-level model a slightly more premium feel.
Annual updates for Apple’s affordable iPhone
Perhaps the bigger strategic shift is Apple’s cadence. Before the 16e, the iPhone SE often went years between refreshes. Moving from iPhone 16e to 17e after just one year signals that Apple now treats its affordable model like the flagship lineup with annual updates.
Availability
Pre-orders begin March 4 at 6:15 am PT and 9:15 am ET. The iPhone 17e officially launches and reaches customers on March 11.
With MagSafe support, doubled base storage, a faster modem, and the A19 chip, the iPhone 17e looks less like a budget compromise and more like a streamlined flagship alternative.
