Apple has reportedly resolved yield issues with its new anti-reflective, scratch-resistant display tech, paving the way for iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max to get the upgrade.
A New Display Upgrade Could Be on the Way
Apple is reportedly moving forward with plans to bring a scratch-resistant anti-reflective display to the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. According to a source speaking to MacRumors, production issues that once threatened the feature’s rollout have now been resolved.
The enhanced display, which was rumored earlier this year, was originally at risk of being cut from the iPhone 17 roadmap. Apple faced difficulties in scaling the coating process, leading to slowdowns in manufacturing. But with recent improvements in yield, it looks like the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max will be the first to get the upgrade.
What Makes This Display Different?
The upcoming display layer is said to provide:
- Higher scratch resistance than the existing Ceramic Shield
- Anti-reflective coating that reduces glare and boosts screen visibility in bright conditions

This would be Apple’s first iPhone to include such anti-reflective technology, even though it has already appeared on iPads and Macs. Meanwhile, competitors like Samsung have introduced similar upgrades, such as Gorilla Glass Armor, which reduces reflections by up to 75%.
Only for the Pros
As it stands, only the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are expected to ship with the new display. The base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air will reportedly stick with the current display tech, likely due to manufacturing complexity and cost.

With just two months to go until Apple’s iPhone 17 September event, this display upgrade could be one of the more notable durability improvements on the Pro line this year.
