Apple might finally be catching up on a feature Android phones have been flexing for years — reverse wireless charging.

According to Weibo leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the iPhone 17 Pro could be able to share its battery with smaller Apple devices like AirPods or an Apple Watch, essentially turning your phone into a pocket-sized charging pad.

Why Now?

If you think about it, the timing makes sense. Apple has been inching toward this for years: first with the MagSafe Battery Pack hack in 2021 where the phone could charge the battery pack when connected to a power source, then with USB-C iPhones that can charge accessories via cable. Wireless reverse charging feels like the natural next step — the “finally” moment Apple fans have been waiting for.

But here’s the real kicker: Apple doesn’t roll out features just because everyone else has them. If this does show up on the iPhone 17 Pro, expect it to be framed as a seamless, “Apple-style” convenience — probably tied into MagSafe in a way that makes you want their accessories over third-party ones.

The 404 Take

On paper, this sounds like one of those niche features you forget about until the day it saves you. Your AirPods die at the gym? Drop them on your iPhone. Apple Watch red-zoning during a trip? Rest it on the back of your phone while you grab coffee. Not groundbreaking, but definitely one of those quality-of-life perks that makes a phone feel smarter.

The question is whether Apple actually lets it go live this year or keeps it in the testing drawer a little longer. We’ll find out at the September 9 event. Personally, I think it’s about time Apple gave us this one.
