Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 series continues to generate buzz, and the latest rumor points to a new accessory twist: official iPhone 17 cases with lanyard support.
A well-known leaker, Majin Bu, has doubled down on this claim, even sharing a short video of what appears to be a standard iPhone 17 dummy model in a silicone case.
What’s Different This Time?
The case shown in the leak features small holes on both lower corners, perfect spots for attaching a lanyard. While the lanyard itself would likely come from third-party brands, this design detail suggests Apple could be leaning into a more practical, hands-free approach for its latest iPhones.
This wouldn’t be the first time Apple incorporated a lanyard feature. The AirPods Pro 2 charging case includes a small loop for lanyard attachments, and the 5th-generation iPod touch had a built-in mechanism for securing a strap. For many users, especially mobile photographers or those constantly on the move, the option to keep an iPhone tethered to the wrist or bag could be both convenient and secure.
“Liquid Silicone” and iPhone 17 Colors
The rumor also mentions that Apple may brand these cases with a new name: “Liquid Silicone,” likely inspired by iOS 26’s Liquid Glass design. Alongside this, the iPhone 17 base models are expected to arrive in fresh green and purple color options, adding a splash of personality to Apple’s 2025 lineup.
It’s worth noting that if these cases are genuine, they might also cast doubt on earlier leaks suggesting the iPhone 17 would gain a second Camera Control button. The design doesn’t seem to accommodate it, at least for the standard models.
What’s Next?
Of course, as with all leaks, nothing is confirmed until Apple takes the stage. The video doesn’t guarantee these cases are official Apple products as third-party manufacturers often create prototypes ahead of time. Still, with the iPhone 17 launch expected in less than a month, we won’t have to wait long to see if lanyard-ready Liquid Silicone cases are the real deal.
