Apple’s thinnest iPhone yet might keep its sleek look even when wrapped in a protective shell.

A Case Can’t Hide That “Air” Thinness

Rumors around the upcoming iPhone 17 Air have everyone buzzing, and for good reason. Apple seems to be going all in on a slim, futuristic design, trading battery bulk for a sleeker silhouette. But naturally, a question arises: if we all throw it in a case the moment it’s unboxed, what’s the point of a thin phone?

Interestingly, as spotted by 9to5Mac, a recent hands-on video with dummy units may have the answer. In it, the rumored iPhone 17 Air is placed side-by-side with an iPhone 17 Pro Max dummy. Then it’s fitted into what looks like a new, ultra-thin version of Apple’s Beats-branded case. designed specifically to hug the Air’s full-width camera bar and ultra-slim profile.

Even inside the case, the iPhone 17 Air still looks thinner than the Pro Max without one. That’s a promising sign for anyone who wants the Air’s lightweight feel and some protection.

Sleek Looks, Shorter Battery?

There is, however, a trade-off: early testing suggests the thin form factor comes with a cost; battery life. According to reports, the iPhone 17 Air may lag behind its thicker siblings in endurance, which could be a dealbreaker for some.

Apple’s solution? A comeback of the Smart Battery Case. Yeah, the once-discontinued battery-boosting case may return, tailor-made for the iPhone 17 Air. Historically, Apple has released these types of accessories months after the iPhone launch, so don’t be surprised if the Air launches solo at first, with the case arriving later.

Still, if battery life is a top priority, you might want to stick with the Pro or standard models. That said, I’d still bet the Air lasts longer than the iPhone 13 mini ever did.

As for how it looks in the case, well… it still looks slimmer then the Pro but personally, I still don’t see how any cover will manage to keep the cool-factor of the phone alive.
