A new leak suggests the iPhone 17 Air may move the front camera to the left side of the Dynamic Island. Here’s why Apple might be making the switch.

iPhone 17 FaceTime Camera Could Relocate to the Left Due to Ultra-Thin Chassis

Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air is shaping up to be a sleek departure from the usual lineup, and a new leak may have just confirmed one surprising twist: the selfie camera might be moving to the left side.

Front-Facing Flip: What’s the Deal?

Shared by leaker Majin Bu, a new image shows four alleged iPhone 17 screen protectors, labeled for iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, and 17 Air. At first glance? Pretty standard. But look closer: while the other models keep the camera on the right of the Dynamic Island, the iPhone 17 Air flips it to the left.

Is this a bold new take on user experience? Well… not quite. While Bu claims this could offer “new angles and a different interaction,” the shift is likely more about engineering practicality than visual drama.

Why the Change?

If the iPhone 17 Air (or iPhone 17 Slim) is really going sub–6mm in thickness (5.5mm), that’s going to create some tight constraints under the hood. Relocating the camera could be Apple’s way of squeezing all the tech into a wafer-thin frame without sacrificing performance, or forehead space.

So, no, your selfies won’t suddenly look left-leaning, but your phone’s internals might breathe a little easier.

What Else Do We Know?

This isn’t the first iPhone 17 Air leak. A recent iOS 26 wallpaper discovery may have unintentionally spilled the screen resolution and dimensions. And with Apple expected to make the 17 Air the slimmest iPhone ever, don’t be surprised if more design shifts surface in the months ahead.
