Apple could finally be making it easier to switch from an iPhone to an Android phone. According to a new report by Android Authority, the upcoming iOS 19 update may introduce a feature that allows wireless eSIM transfers from iPhone to Android, something that’s currently a bit of a headache for users.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • iOS 19 may support wireless eSIM transfer from iPhone to Android.
  • Feature spotted in Google’s SIM Manager in the Android 16 beta.
  • Could be added to iPhone’s “Transfer or Reset” settings menu.
  • May include a QR code fallback if wireless transfer fails.
  • iOS 19 is likely required for this to work.

A Smoother Switch from iPhone to Android?

Right now, if you want to move your eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device, you usually have to call your carrier. It’s a manual, often frustrating process. But things could change with iOS 19.

Android Authority discovered code strings in Google’s SIM Manager app that point to a new “Transfer to Android” feature. It looks like this tool will let users move their eSIMs from an iPhone directly to an Android phone, no carrier call needed.

What It Might Look Like on iPhone

According to the code, this feature could show up in the Settings app under:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Transfer to Android

The code also includes a line saying:

“Still can’t connect wirelessly? Make sure your other device is running iOS 19 or later versions.”

That confirms the feature is likely exclusive to iOS 19 and newer.

Will Google Offer a Reverse Option?

If Apple is planning to open up eSIM transfers to Android, it’s possible Google is also working on a similar feature that makes it easier to switch from Android to iPhone. No official word yet, but the timing ahead of WWDC 2025 is certainly interesting.

We’ll likely learn more about this (and other iOS 19 goodies) at Apple’s WWDC event in June. For now, this update could be a major win for users looking for more flexibility when switching devices.
