WhatsApp now lets U.S. users enable Meta AI message summaries to quickly catch up on unread chats. Here’s how to turn it on and what to expect.

WhatsApp Meta AI Message Summaries Feature is Currently Rolling Out in the U.S. So You Can Catch Up Without the Scroll

WhatsApp users in the U.S. can now enjoy AI-powered message summaries, courtesy of Meta AI, so you can skip the meme flood and get straight to the point.

What Are WhatsApp Message Summaries?

Launched officially today, the feature was leaked two weeks ago suggesting that it was already in testing.

Meta AI message summaries feature lets you get a quick, AI-generated recap of unread messages in any chat. Think of it as TL;DR for your most chaotic group threads or long-winded updates.

So whether your college buddies went on a 60-message brunch rant, or your work group chat turned into a side hustle pitch deck, you can now catch up in seconds.

Privacy First, AI Second

Worried about Meta reading your private chats? Don’t be. WhatsApp says the summaries use Private Processing technology, which means:

  • Meta and WhatsApp don’t see your messages or summaries
  • No one in the chat knows you generated a summary
  • Everything stays private on your device

And yes, the feature is completely optional. It’s off by default, and you choose whether to enable it, and even which chats are eligible for summaries.

  4. Open any chat with unread messages and tap the Meta AI icon to summarize

Currently, the feature is only available in English and only in the U.S., but WhatsApp says more languages and countries are coming later this year.

TL;DR of the TL;DR

WhatsApp’s AI-powered message summaries are finally here, giving you a smarter, faster way to stay on top of your chats, without losing privacy or control. It’s optional, private, and actually useful.
