Google Drive’s Gemini AI just got a major upgrade: it can now analyze videos. With this new feature, users can get summaries and ask questions about video content without watching the full video. This is especially useful for recorded meetings, lectures, and training sessions.

Gemini Video Summary Feature: What’s New

Google is expanding Gemini’s capabilities inside Google Drive by adding video analysis support. Now, when you open a video in Drive on the web, you’ll see a Gemini icon in the top-right corner. Click it to open the side panel, where Gemini will offer a summary and suggested prompts like:
- Outline the key takeaways
- List action items
- What are the highlights?
You can also type custom questions about the content of the video and get instant answers.

This builds on Gemini’s existing support for PDFs and documents, making it even easier to extract insights from different file types stored in your Drive.
Important to Know:
- This feature is not available on the Gemini mobile app
- Only document and image uploads are supported in the app right now

The video analysis feature is rolling out over the coming weeks for:
- Google One AI Pro and AI Premium users
- Workspace Business Standard and Plus
- Enterprise Standard and Plus
- Gemini Education or Education Premium add-on customers

Additionally, a new Analytics section in the Details panel shows how many times a video was opened. This part of the update is coming to:
- All Google Workspace customers
- Workspace Individual subscribers
