Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone may cost up to $2,000 and measure 4.8mm thick, new leaks suggest. Here’s what else we know about the 2026 launch.
According to analysts at UBS, Apple’s iPhone Fold could debut with a price between $1,800 and $2,000, making it the most expensive iPhone ever. This is costlier than even the iPhone 17 Pro Max or a base MacBook Pro.
Foldable iPhone to Cost More Than a MacBook
UBS estimates that the iPhone Fold’s price will start in the $1,800–$2,000 range in the U.S., well above the current flagship iPhone Pro Max at $1,199. The steep pricing aligns with Apple’s typical strategy of launching new categories at a premium, especially with innovative hardware like foldable displays.
New Thickness Leak Suggests It May Be Bulkier Than Samsung
In addition to the price rumors, a thickness leak from reliable Weibo source Instant Digital suggests the foldable iPhone will measure at least 4.8mm when unfolded. That’s slightly thicker than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7, which comes in at 4.2mm. Earlier reports from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo hinted at a thinner 4.5mm design, but the final product may not meet that target.
Design and Launch Timeline
Kuo also recently shared that the iPhone Fold will feature:
- A 7.8-inch crease-free inner display
- A 5.5-inch cover screen
- Touch ID in the power button
- Dual rear cameras and a single front camera
- No Face ID, at least for the first model
Leaker Digital Chat Station also shared some details on the iPhone Fold last month, predicting a slightly smaller 7.58-inch display, a titanium frame, and an “Advanced hinge with amorphous metallic glass composite.”
Mass production is rumored to begin in late 2026, with a launch expected next year.
Apple’s foldable will enter a market Samsung has dominated since 2019, but knowing Apple, it will aim for refinement and polish to make a strong debut.
