Apple is expected to announce its rumored low-cost MacBook on March 4, with the device arriving in a range of bold color options, according to a known leaker.
Earlier this week, Apple confirmed a “special Apple Experience” event for media in New York, London, and Shanghai. The event will take place on March 4, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. ET.
Colorful entry-level MacBook
Posting on Weibo, Instant Digital claimed that the color scheme of the Apple logo graphic used for the upcoming event matches the finishes of the new entry-level Mac.
The invite graphic features a 3D Apple logo composed of transparent discs in yellow, green, and blue. According to the leaker, this is a direct hint at the color options for the new MacBook and suggests the device will debut at the March 4 event.

While Apple has not officially confirmed the product, the post effectively signals that the low-cost MacBook announcement is imminent.
Analysts previously predicted playful color options
Back in June 2025, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the more affordable MacBook could be offered in silver, blue, pink, and yellow finishes, aligning with the color strategy used for entry-level iPads.
More recently, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reported that Apple has tested an even wider range of colors.
According to Gurman, Apple has experimented with:
- Light yellow
- Light green
- Blue
- Pink
- Classic silver
- Dark gray

However, he noted that it is unlikely every tested color will make it to the final lineup.
If Apple moves forward with a brighter palette, the low-cost MacBook would become the most colorful laptop the company has offered since the iBook G3 era in the late 1990s. That lineup included distinctive finishes such as Tangerine, Blueberry, Indigo, Graphite, and Key Lime.
Expected Specs and Pricing
The low-cost MacBook is rumored to feature:
- A 12.9-inch display
- An aluminum chassis
- An iPhone-class chip, likely the A18 Pro
- A price well below $999
Notably, the device is expected to use an A-series chip rather than an M-series processor, signaling a shift toward tighter vertical integration and cost efficiency.
If accurate, this would mark the first modern Mac powered by an iPhone chip instead of Apple silicon designed specifically for Macs.
March 4 Could Be a Major Moment for Mac
Apple’s March 4 event appears positioned to highlight new hardware, and multiple reports suggest the low-cost MacBook will be the centerpiece.
If the color leaks prove accurate, Apple may be preparing to reintroduce vibrant personality into its laptop lineup while targeting a broader audience with more aggressive pricing.
All eyes now turn to March 4 for official confirmation.
