Apple’s Vision Pro has been praised for its cutting-edge mixed reality experience, but two major complaints remain: it’s heavy and it’s expensive.
Now, a new report suggests Apple may finally fix both issues—though not until 2027, when a new device called Vision Air is expected to arrive.
Vision Air: Lighter and Cheaper Than Vision Pro
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working on a “Vision Air” headset that will be over 40% lighter than the current Vision Pro and more than 50% cheaper. That would bring its weight closer to 350 grams (down from ~600g) and its price potentially as low as $1,500—a huge drop from Vision Pro’s $3,499 starting price.
That kind of weight reduction could make extended wear far more comfortable, addressing one of the biggest complaints from early Vision Pro adopters. And at a fraction of the price, Vision Air could finally push Apple’s headset lineup toward mainstream adoption.
How Might Apple Cut Costs?
Of course, a headset that’s this much cheaper will almost certainly come with compromises. Analysts suggest Vision Air could have fewer cameras, lower-resolution displays, or skip certain features like EyeSight (the external screen that shows your eyes). Even so, the goal seems clear: deliver the core Vision experience without the heavy build or ultra-premium price tag.
Why Vision Air Matters
Vision Air shipments are estimated to hit 1 million units in 2027, compared to fewer than 400,000 for existing models. That kind of jump would make Vision Air Apple’s first headset to sell at iPhone-like volumes.
For now, Vision Pro 2 is expected soon and will likely keep the same $3,499 price point. But for those waiting on a more accessible Apple headset, Vision Air may be the one to watch.
