Apple is now rolling out macOS 26.4 public beta 2, one day after seeding the same build to developers. Public testers enrolled in Apple’s beta program can download the update today.
The release build number is 25E5218f, matching the developer beta 2 version.
What’s New in macOS 26.4
Compact tab bar returns to Safari
With macOS 26.4, Apple restores the compact tab bar design in Safari. The change reintroduces a denser layout that some users prefer for managing multiple open tabs.
Rosetta transition warnings begin
Apple is beginning to more aggressively signal the end of support for Rosetta.
Rosetta allows Apple Silicon Macs to run apps built for Intel processors. Apple previously announced that Rosetta support will end with macOS 27. In macOS 26.4, users will now see pop-up alerts warning that certain apps rely on Rosetta and will stop working in a future version of macOS.
This move appears aimed at encouraging developers to fully transition their apps to native Apple Silicon builds.
Built-in battery Charge Limit controls

macOS 26.4 also introduces a native battery charge limit feature, similar to tools previously offered by third-party utilities.
Users can now set a maximum charge cap between 80 percent and 100 percent, which may help reduce long-term battery wear for MacBook users who keep their devices plugged in for extended periods.
Refinements continue ahead of release
macOS 26.4 public beta 2 focuses on refinements and transition planning rather than major feature additions. Between Safari interface adjustments, Rosetta deprecation warnings, and improved battery management, Apple continues preparing the platform for its next major evolution.
More tweaks may surface as testing continues.
