Apple has officially expanded Tap to Pay on iPhone to Hong Kong, allowing merchants of all sizes to accept contactless payments using only an iPhone.

The rollout gives sellers a direct alternative to traditional payment terminals and makes quick transactions more accessible across retail, F&B, taxis, and more.

Tap to Pay supports Apple Pay, contactless credit and debit cards, and a variety of digital wallets. Transactions are encrypted end to end, and Apple says it does not store purchase details or tie payments to a user’s identity. The experience stays fast, private, and secure for both customers and merchants.

Tap to Pay runs on the iPhone’s built-in NFC chip and supports PIN entry when required. Accessibility support is also part of the package, allowing merchants with different needs to use the feature without complications. As long as you have a compatible iPhone, you can start taking payments almost instantly.

Payment Platforms and Market Rollout

From today, Adyen, Global Payments, KPay, and SoéPay are officially supporting Tap to Pay on iPhone in Hong Kong. Apple says this covers major industries including taxis, retail stores, restaurants, service businesses, and independent merchants.

In its newsroom announcement, Apple highlighted broad compatibility with digital wallets and major card networks. The company stated, “Tap to Pay on iPhone supports Apple Pay and other digital wallets, as well as contactless credit and debit cards from leading payment networks, including American Express, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa.”

Apple also noted that developers and payment platforms can integrate Tap to Pay directly into their iOS apps, making it easier for merchants to activate secure contactless payments without external hardware.

Tap to Pay on iPhone first launched in the United States in 2022 and has since expanded to more than 50 regions. Hong Kong now joins markets such as Japan, the UK, Australia, and Singapore, indicating Apple’s steady push toward hardware-free payment acceptance worldwide.
