Apple is reportedly preparing a new version of AirPods Pro this year, and the biggest change could be built-in infrared cameras.

According to leaker Kosutami on X, the upcoming AirPods Pro model will largely resemble the current AirPods Pro 3, but with one major upgrade: IR cameras for visual intelligence-style AI features.

These cameras may enable new ways for the earbuds to interact with your environment, opening the door to advanced health, fitness, and contextual AI experiences.

Same design, smarter features

  • Design: Largely unchanged from AirPods Pro 3
  • New Hardware: IR cameras for AI-powered capabilities
  • Potential Price: The standard AirPods Pro 3 remains $249. The new camera-equipped model could be around $299

The addition of cameras aligns with Apple CEO Tim Cook’s recent emphasis on Visual Intelligence as a key AI advancement for Apple devices.

Release timing

Apple has not revealed a launch date. Historically, new AirPods models debut at the fall iPhone event, but there’s always a chance Apple could release the camera-equipped AirPods Pro sooner.

For now, this leak confirms the main feature we’ve been anticipating and suggests that Apple is focusing on enhancing functionality without a full redesign.
