Apple has released fresh firmware updates for both AirPods Pro 3 and AirPods Pro 2. The timing is notable because iOS 26.2 is expected to drop very soon, making today’s update cycle more interesting than usual.

New Firmware Versions for AirPods Pro

Apple is rolling out separate firmware builds for each model.

Here are the new versions:

  • AirPods Pro 3: Firmware 8B30 (previously 8B25)
  • AirPods Pro 2: Firmware 8B28 (previously 8B21)

AirPods firmware webpage should be updated in a bit, but for now the Apple has not shared any detailed release notes. Historically, most firmware descriptions fall under the generic banner of “Bug fixes and other improvements.”

Since these builds are arriving so close to iOS 26.2, we could see more specific enhancements this time. iOS 26.2 is already confirmed to expand AirPods Live Translation to users in the EU, so related improvements are possible.

How to Install the New AirPods Firmware

Unlike iPhone or iPad updates, you cannot manually trigger AirPods firmware updates. Apple uses an automated process that works in the background.

Below are Apple’s official steps:

  1. Update your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or macOS.
  2. Ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
  3. Keep your AirPods connected to your device.
  4. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to Wi-Fi.
  5. Place your AirPods in the charging case and close the lid.
  6. Keep them near your device for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Reopen the case lid to reconnect and check your firmware version again.

The update should install automatically during this window.

What’s Next?

As Apple publishes official notes, we may get clarity on what these builds change or improve. If you have already received the update, feel free to share any noticeable differences in performance, connectivity, or features.
